"Popping” an event on”

Why we do what we do? …..

I often get asked by friends and family why I ‘do what I do’ ……

Well, it is partly because I feel that I’ve become ‘unemployable” over the many years of self-employment, but it also runs a lot deeper than that ….

They continue with words similar to the following, “why do I bother risking personal loss by putting on a music or beer festival for other people’s enjoyment and at times for people to criticise from afar without coming along to try the experience, or even having a go themselves…. !”

Well, on occasions I question myself too, however at the end of most of our events I stumble upon a common answer ….. yes, every event is a huge risk, but when you stand at the back of a busy marquee or field and see people having an amazing time with friends, family and even people they have never met before I come to the same answer….

It is togetherness, social interaction, the ability to mix with people that are at times not ‘your type’, having fun with people either younger or a lot older than you, without these events does this interaction and ability to meet and have fun with people disappear? … interesting question?

Then I occasionally look a little deeper, and furthermore, the communal experiences offered by festivals and events can have therapeutic effects, providing a sense of escape and freedom for individuals. The shared enjoyment of music and events fosters social connections, reduces stress, and contributes to overall happiness and mental health, sometimes short term but if you focus on these positives then longer-term wellness shines through!

So, when you attend or even consider attending an event, please do put some more consideration into why you should or shouldn’t attend and support these great occasions ….

If you do make the effort and attend please do find some time to step away from the fun you are having, find some time to reflect, walk to the back of the marquee or field and take a look at everyone forgetting their normal day to day hard times, the stresses and strains of life and watch them actually having fun … and remember, you are part of that amazing festival experience, without you guys and us mad lot that put these events on we don’t have these nice times, and they may well be gone and good luck finding the next person to take the risk.

Please do support local events on your doorstep, they are a huge part of community, learning, mental health and soooooo much more than you realise!

They keep a lot of businesses going including musicians, marquee companies, stage, sound and lighting, toilet hire, event fencing contractors, bar staff, security teams, venues, first aiders, comperes, food traders, bar staff, waste management businesses, wristband suppliers, entertainers, breweries, distillers, printing companies, pint cup suppliers and a whole host of more businesses that are associated with ensuring that every event and festival works!

So, to wrap this initial “blog” up, remember that social interaction is a huge thing in our lives, both mentally & physically. It gives everyone the ability to converse, make new friends, strengthen relationships, be a part of and understand the bigger picture, grow other people’s businesses as part of what we do, and most of all, have a load of fun and enjoy ourselves …… Sing, Dance, support and be part of the festival and event party folks!!! …

It means more to people than you realise…

So there it is .... my very first 'blog' ....... Get involved and support not just yourself, but also your mental health, other peoples feelings, support local businesses, and most of all, realise that as per the photo attached that anyone can carry 3 pints of beer and an Ice Cream at the same time!
